Norwegian industry is world leading in marine electric propulsion systems. An important reason for this position is the close collaboration between R&D institutions and industry.
Several of the partners in MoZEES have played key roles in the development and construction of Brødrene Aa’s award winning sightseeing vessel «Future of The Fjords»: ZEM Marine has delivered the battery system, DNV GL has classified the ship and ENOVA has contributed with funding. IFE and FFI have been central to the development of critical knowledge necessary for the safe implementation of large battery systems in ships.
A newly published report documenting the design and construction of «Future of The Fjords» can be downloaded here (click here for the Norwegian version).
The report Effekter av energiforskningen, documenting the value creation from Norwegian energy research, also addresses the use of batteries in marine applications and the enabling role research has played (see page 141). The report was prepared on behalf of the Research Council of Norway and written in collaboration with 8 FME centers (including MoZEES).
