The acquisition of Hydrogenics by Cummins (81%) with the help of Air Liquide (19%) on 9th September 2019 provided yet another hint that world leading automotive companies believe that hydrogen transport will play a key role. Bosch, Michelin, Weichai Power, Elring Klinger all have activities in fuel cells to some degree. Yet, transportation is not the only application of fuel cells, the great advantage of hydrogen is its cross-sector applications – the hydrogen economy. FCHJU analysis says hydrogen could provide up to 24% of total energy demand, or up to 2,250 TWH of energy in the EU by 2050.
